How do Lunch Hour Lessons work?

Your teacher will come to your office and give you a 30-minute lesson once a week for eight weeks.

Why do Lunch Hour Lessons work so well?

Typically, busy adult students are too busy or tired to practive at home after work. Having a keyboard (with headphones, if necessary) at work gives you the option of practicing during your lunch hour or on breaks. 30 to 60 minutes of daily practice is recommended for beginners.

  When are lessons offered?

Work lessons are offered from 10:30am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Will you come to my location?

We serve Downtown Chicago (Loop) and the following neighborhoods:

South Loop, Near North, Streeterville, River North, Gold Coast, Old Town, Lincoln Park, Park West, Wrightwood, DePaul, Lakeview, Roscoe Village, Andersonville, Uptown, Edgewater, Ravenswood and Rogers Park.

Do I need to have my own keyboard?

No. The instructor will bring one (with headphones, if needed) to your office for the first lesson.

Do I need to have a private office or space for the lesson?

No. Headphones for both student and instructor will be available, although some verbal communication is necessary, so a private office is desirable.

What if I need to cancel a lesson?

Call your instructor by 9:30 am the date of the scheduled lesson. You will not be charged for that lesson. However, students are urged not to cancel for reasons other than illness or business/personal emergency. Make-up lessons are offered on a case-by-case basis.

What kind of music will I play?

You will learn a variety of styles and concentrate on what you like to play. Beginners will focus on basic reading skills, simple technical exercises, theory, sight reading, ear training, and basic improvisation. The instructors are both classically trained.

  Do I have to practice?

Yes! You will not improve if you do not practice. Practicing at work is a great way to break up the day and is a good idea if you feel tired after work. Your teacher will work with you on an effective practice strategy.

Can I take lessons with a friend?

Yes, and for no extra charge! You must both be beginners, however.

Will my friends and co-workers make fun of me for taking piano?

No! They will be jealous! Be prepared for lots of song requests.
